FOR OUR COLLEAGUES
Supporting our colleagues is just one more way we fulfill our commitment to the care and improvement of human life. We're here to support all colleagues so they can continue to provide high-quality, patient-centered care.
We provide a wide range of programs and services to colleagues to support their physical, mental, emotional and financial wellness. One example, the Nurse Care helpline, is a free and confidential service that gives HCA Healthcare hospital-based nurses 24/7 remote access to licensed psychologists, social workers and marriage and family therapists. Colleagues can access a variety of support tools and resources at any time by visiting The Wellbeing Hub.
We are committed to supporting our colleagues with resources, training and development programs and partnerships, to ensure a strong nursing pipeline and create growth opportunities. Our nurse residency and Specialty Training Apprenticeship for Registered Nurses (StaRN) programs prepare HCA Healthcare nurses for careers in healthcare. Our Centers for Clinical Advancement provide nurses with opportunities to advance their skills by working with lifelike simulation equipment.
Our Galen College of Nursing collaboration is the largest academic practice partnership in the U.S. HCA Healthcare provides significant clinical and medical education through 320 graduate medical education (GME) programs at 66 hospitals with more than 5,300 residents and fellows (as of Dec. 31, 2022).
The HCA Healthcare Hope Fund is a colleague-run, colleague-supported 501(c)(3) charity that helps colleagues and their immediate families when faced with financial hardship. In 2022, over $12 million was distributed to HCA Healthcare colleagues and families through 4,427 grants.
When medical complications during her pregnancy required extended bed rest, nurse Judith McDonald and her husband Joseph were unexpectedly reliant solely on his income. The Hope Fund provided resources and overwhelming relief, helping Judith to continue her pregnancy with less stress, and safely deliver healthy twins.
In 2022, we provided almost $40 million in student loan and tuition assistance to support the educational goals of our colleagues and their family members.
In addition, eligible dependents of HCA Healthcare colleagues can apply to receive merit-based higher education scholarships through the HCA Healthcare Foundation's Patricia Frist Memorial Scholarship Program. In 2022, more than 580 recipients received scholarships totaling more than $1.7 million.
In 2022, HCA Healthcare was recognized for the second consecutive year by LinkedIn as one of the 50 best U.S. workplaces for professionals to grow their careers. This annual list ranks companies based on seven pillars: ability to advance, skills growth, external opportunity, company stability, company affinity, gender diversity and educational background. We're proud to provide opportunities for advancement and growth for all colleagues in any stage of their career.
